Conan the
Destroyer
Basil Poledouris |
| Excellent fantasy
music overall, with lots of epic tracks for traveling, fighting, and even
some slower 'mood' music. Excellent soundtrack and well worth having! |
Not quite as
impacting as the original Conan soundtrack, 'Destroyer' has a slower pace
and a less grand presence overall. Some great 'action' pieces regardless. |

LotR:
Fellowship of the Ring
Howard Shore |
The 13th
Warrior
Jerry Goldsmith |
| Mostly slow, foreboding
music, with a few more whimsical tracks for the Hobbits' music and
bombastic themes for triumphant times. Some great 'evil' music as well. |
A lot of
stereotypical Norse/Viking influence here with a touch of Arabian themes
to match the culture clash of the movie. Lots of percussion and
interesting horns. |

Braveheart
James Horner |
First Knight
Jerry Goldsmith |
| A soundtrack that
really runs the gamut. Braveheart more than sufficiently covers the
savagery of battle and the softness of romance, while incorporating ethnic
instruments and themes. |
A lot of excellent
'fight' or 'tension' music, with a great deal of percussion and choral
work. A lot of emotion in these pieces. A great medieval/fantasy
soundtrack that no one should be without. |

Last of the

Cutthroat
Island
John Debney |
| The
original soundtrack and still the best (don't buy the remake), featuring
both rousing action themes and haunting, emotional pieces. Often
overlooked. |
A
lot of fanfare, with heroic trumpets and strings alongside a competent
chorus. Another epic soundtrack that covers both the action of adventure
and the emotion of romance. |

The
Thin Red Line
Hans Zimmer |
Gladiator
Hans Zimmer |
| This
score is very slow moving and highly emotional. It is great background
music, with soft, sweeping themes and works best for 'atmosphere' sound.
One of Zimmer's best and overlooked scores. |
Another
of Zimmer's greats, this score mixes his talents for making powerful music
with the subtleties of Lisa Gerrard's magnificent voice. The vocal pieces
are soothing, the action is harsh and razor-edged, and overall this is a
score to own. |
